Dr Ambedkar Foundation Marriage Scheme 2024

The Central Government has decided to provide every couple where one member is a member of the Dalit group an incentive of Rs. 2.5 lakhs to encourage inter-caste marriages involving Dalits. This scheme used to only be available to couples whose annual income was less than Rs. 5 lakhs. In an effort to promote Dalit weddings across castes, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has now chosen to expand this program to all couples without an economic threshold. The updated terms of this scheme allow couples who married outside of their caste and had a Dalit spouse to get a one-time incentive of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

Furthermore, a few governments have instituted comparable programs that do not impose any income restrictions. These programs were started with the goal of supporting and aiding couples who, especially in the early phases of their marriage, have bravely entered into intercaste marriages in defiance of social stigma.

Features & Benefits of Dr Ambedkar Foundation Marriage Scheme

Some of the key features and benefits of the Dr Ambedkar Foundation Marriage Scheme are as follows:

  • For Indian society to advance and grow, caste inequity must be eliminated. Consequently, it is strongly advised to promote intercaste marriages.
  • A big step in the right direction has been taken with the launch of this programme. Programmes offering incentives such as these will act as a trigger for the younger generation to adopt progressive practices.
  • All of this welfare scheme’s operational costs and financial obligations will be covered by the central government.
  • The strict caste system in India often results in rejection and suffering from family members for young couples who wish to marry outside their caste. Nonetheless, these couples won’t have to worry about experiencing financial hardship in the early years of their marriages because to this stipend.
  • Promoting equality between all castes is one of this scheme’s main goals. The central government hopes that by doing this, caste-related prejudices will be eradicated and everyone will be treated equally.
  • Every couple would have the opportunity to obtain a sizeable sum of Rs. 2.50 lakhs from the central government.
  • The money will be given to the couples in two installments, giving them financial security.
  • The central government first chose to run this programme as a two-year test project. The achievement of the goals will lead to the regular scheme status being granted.
  • The district authority in each state or union territory will be in charge of setting up a formal wedding ceremony and allocating the grant funds.
  • For every couple that receives the award, the relevant central government agency will give the local administrative body a sum of Rs. 25,000.
  • The stipend will help 500 couples in total, according to an announcement by the central government. The percentage of SC residents in each state or union territory will serve as the basis for the selection procedure.

 Incentive Amount

The Dr. Ambedkar Scheme offers a reward of Rs. 2.50 lakh for a legally recognized intercaste marriage. The qualifying pair will receive 50% of the incentive amount in the form of a DD in their joint name, and the remaining 50% after five years. The program provides incentives for 500 marriages within a calendar year. According to the 2011 Census, each state has a set goal based on the population’s percentage share of SC.
